Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 14, 2026 · Applies to the Rise iOS app and this website

The short version

  • Your camera never phones home. Pushup counting, barcode scanning and sky checks run entirely on your iPhone. Photos and video are never stored or uploaded.
  • Anonymous by default. Rise creates an anonymous account so your streaks can sync. Sign in with Apple is optional.
  • No ads. No data sale. No cross-app tracking.
  • Delete everything, any time, with one tap in Settings → Delete Account.

1. Who we are

Rise ("we", "us") is an independent iOS alarm app that helps you actually get out of bed. This policy explains what data the app handles, why, and what never leaves your device.

2. Data we collect and why

Account

When you first launch Rise, we create an anonymous account using Firebase Authentication. It has a random identifier and no name, email, or phone number. You may optionally link Sign in with Apple so your progress survives device changes; Apple then shares your name and (optionally private-relay) email address with us, per your choice in the Apple dialog.

App data synced to your account

  • Alarms: times, repeat days, labels, chosen wake mission (including a registered barcode's text payload — never an image), and sound settings.
  • Wake history: dates, outcomes (completed, gave up), and which mission you completed.
  • Progress: streaks, XP, level, badges, and items or themes you've unlocked.
  • Onboarding answers: your wake-time goals and questionnaire choices, used to personalize the app.

This data is stored in Google Cloud Firestore, tied to your (anonymous or linked) account, so your progress can be restored.

Purchases

Subscriptions are processed by Apple. We never see your payment details. We receive your subscription status (active or not), and our paywall provider Superwall receives standard purchase events (product, price) to run and measure the paywall.

Analytics and diagnostics

The Firebase and Superwall SDKs collect device-level identifiers, basic device information, and app events (for example: onboarding completed, paywall viewed). We use this to understand what's broken and what's working. We do not use third-party advertising SDKs and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.

3. The camera stays on your device

Three wake missions use the camera. All processing happens on-device using Apple's Vision framework:

  • Pushups: body-pose detection counts your reps in real time. No video or photos are recorded, stored, or transmitted.
  • Barcode: the scanner matches the code against the one you registered. Only the barcode's text payload is saved (with your alarm) — never an image.
  • Sky photo: the capture is classified on-device ("is this the sky?") and then discarded. It is never saved to your photo library or uploaded anywhere.

Camera access is requested only when a mission needs it, and you can revoke it in iOS Settings at any time.

4. Alarms and notifications

Alarms are scheduled with Apple's AlarmKit and ring locally on your device. Notification permission is used for local reminders only — we do not send marketing push notifications.

5. What we never collect

  • No location data.
  • No contacts, calendars, or photo library access.
  • No health data.
  • No advertising identifiers, no ads, and no sale of personal data — to anyone, ever.

6. Third-party services

  • Apple — App Store purchases, StoreKit, Sign in with Apple, AlarmKit. Apple privacy
  • Google Firebase — authentication and database (Firestore). Firebase privacy
  • Superwall — paywall presentation and purchase analytics. Superwall privacy

These providers process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own advertising.

7. Retention and deletion

Your synced data is kept while your account exists. To erase it:

  • In the app: Settings → Delete Account removes your authentication record and all synced data from our servers. See how to delete your account.
  • Local data is removed when you delete the app.
  • You can also email us at hi@risealarm.dev and we will delete your data within 30 days.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under GDPR or CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. Contact us and we'll honor them. You won't be discriminated against for exercising them.

9. Children

Rise is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll update this page and the effective date above. Significant changes will be highlighted in the app.
